We are thrilled to introduce the AuthFlow Snap, the latest addition to our suite of tools designed to streamline decentralized identity and promote MetaMask Snaps. Now available for download on MetaMask Snaps, AuthFlow offers developers and users a flexible, decentralized login mechanism powered by Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs). AuthFlow provides a more scalable and user-friendly alternative to traditional login systems like Sign-in with Ethereum (SIWE), while solving key interoperability challenges.

Key Features of AuthFlow

1. Universal Login Service for Web2 and Web3 Applications

AuthFlow Snap serves as a universal login system for both traditional (Web2) and decentralized (Web3) applications. By integrating with MetaMask, AuthFlow enables developers to offer users a seamless login experience, supporting both Basic Authentication (username and password) and Decentralized Authentication using DIDs and VCs.

2. Enhanced Decentralized Authorization

AuthFlow provides a decentralized option for logging into websites with Verifiable Credentials stored securely in MetaMask. This ensures that users can carry their credentials and login information across platforms without being bound by centralized services or inconsistent identity systems.

3. Snap-to-Snap Connectivity

One of the groundbreaking features of AuthFlow is its ability to interact directly with other existing Snaps. Specifically, AuthFlow works in conjunction with the Identify Snap (a prerequisite Snap developed by Tuum Technologies), showcasing the powerful potential of Snap-to-Snap interoperability. This connectivity enables a richer, more flexible identity experience that was previously unattainable.

4. Cloud Storage Integration

AuthFlow gives users the flexibility to store their Verifiable Credentials on personal cloud storage platforms such as Google Drive or Dropbox, providing users with control over their credentials and secure access across various devices and services.

What’s Next for AuthFlow?

While this release concludes the development of AuthFlow, the Snap remains open source, and we invite the community to contribute and build on its functionality. As the ecosystem continues to grow, developers can extend and improve AuthFlow to meet evolving needs in decentralized identity.

Additionally, we are planning significant updates to the Identify Snap in the coming months, which will include support for more DID methods and UX feature upgrades. These improvements will, in turn, enhance the AuthFlow experience by offering users greater flexibility and a more seamless identity management system.
